Eating, drinking, and swallowing

A woman with medium-length brown hair wearing a black tank top is drinking a glass of water.

The medical term for difficulties with swallowing is dysphagia. It is a condition affecting many people with neurological conditions. There are many indicators of dysphagia, such as difficulties with chewing food, managing to swallow food or drink, or coughing when swallowing.

I can provide assessment and make suggestions to best manage any difficulties. It is often helpful to have an x-ray of your swallow completed (called a videofluoroscopy). If this is indicated, I would refer you to your local NHS Speech and Language Therapy service.
